According to historians, Shivaji Maharaj died on the full moon of the month of Chaitra in Marathi Saka Calendar year 1602.
This corresponds to Saturday, 3rd April 1680.
This day coincides with Hanuman Jayanti – the day on which Lord Hanuman was born.
Shivaji Maharaj died in Raigad Fort and it is believed that he died due to high fever and dysentery. However many believed that he was poisoned by his second wife, Soyarabai so that his crown might pass to her 10-year-old son Rajaram.
